Sites for Students

What a great thing. It just seems like going to school is that much easiar than back in my day. One of my coworkers told me about Zoho and how our patrons could use it. So many people ask to use the wordprocessor and need the internet hook-up. But we do not offer that. Here is the answer!! I am surprised it has not come up. Not that I have heard anyway.
I opened up an account for my daughter on Myschoolog. She is the type of person who likes to know what is coming up next. This will be perfect for her. She can put all her assigments for school and home and tick them off as they go. She has not logged on yet, but her dear mother made a todo list for her. I can just see her rolling her eyes now. I will get her feedback and blog about that as well.
I am almost done. Yeah!! I have enjoyed myself!

Tweet tweet

Pretty fun!! Not sure how to follow someone. I feel kind of silly because I tweeted twice and didn't know how to delete it. I added a "badge" to my facebook and now I think it is public. Maybe I better go over this one again.
I am at a loss right now how the Library would use this other than the ideas put forth from Krltwittering. Yeah I really need to go over this again. I guess I wasn't paying attention.

Facebook

I remember a couple years ago when I first started working at Pt. We did not allow teens on myspace. You had to have a Public profile to go onto it. Kids were using their parents cards and so on. Times have changed.
The article written by that Faraka (sp)? was interesting. It sounds like several libraries banned Myspace and her point of view was refreshing. I am sure many teens across the USA cheered when their local library allowed patrons to log on to it with no restrictions.
I visited a couple public Libraries pages and thought they were really cool. I know Faraka dosen't like that word but... oh well. They were cool. Colorful and very appealing.
For Krl--I wonder if we could use a facebook or Myspace page for our upcoming election. Some of the presidential candidates have them. Try to get feedback that through that. I don't know what percentage of patrons visit sites such as these, we do know that the teens use it. It might work!!

Wiki week 2

Yes! I did it. I was concerned about this one! It all worked out. Had to write my instructions down about how to add a link.
I am thinking about how the community could use the Krl wiki. There are numerous ways the staff could use it. Such as committees, workgroups, how about a vent wiki. Where we could go and vent about various comments we've heard about how greedy the Library is becoming!
Anyway onward to Facebook? Catching up of course.

Wiki week 1

I think the wiki is an informative exciting tool. User friendly and easy. My idea for wikis in Krl is a committee wiki. I know that each branch has all kinds of committees, I am on the so called "Planning committee". We formed over a year ago and have had one official meeting. We talk about having meetings but it never happens. So this wiki idea could be a great tool to have. We put out our calendar for the year and the specific month headings and add to it that way. Then come together every quarter or so to go over it, and fine tune our programs.

You Tube

I really enjoy you tube. My nephews in Tacoma introduced my kids to it and then my kids got me into it. It is a lot of fun. One slow saturday afternoon at Pt my supervisor showed me all these funny Japanese videos. That I then shared with my family.
I watched with interest the book cart drill teams, as I am a part of the Pt drill team. I think our team may have a chance at one of these competitions. We took grand prize at the 2006 Fathoms of Fun Parade and 1st place at the 2007 parade. What do you say Wally, Leah, Susan, and Karen? Lets get to work.
I then watched the fish story from Sw. I think that should have been broadcast on the news. Or maybe it was.....anyway very well done.
Then I searched frizzy hair. I was hoping for some humor but mostly the videos were about how to care for curly/frizzy hair. I think you can find just about anything on you tube. Maybe each branch should post a video on you tube showing what is special about it. dc
